The scout is the fastest class in the game, but is unable to sustain much damage. Portrayed as a young man from South Boston, wearing running shoes, a baseball cap with a thin headset, dog tags and carrying a messenger bag over a team-colored t-shirt, scouts are armed with an underlever sawed-off shotgun, a pistol and an aluminum baseball bat. The role of the scout is to capture objectives once enemy defenses have been disabled; scouts will capture control points twice as fast as other classes. Scouts are able to double jump, giving extra height to a leap and allowing a change of direction in mid-air.
On April 19, 2008, the scout became the fifth class to be covered in the "Meet the Team" advertisement series. In the video, the scout is shown to be a "tough guy" with clips of him interrupting an enemy heavy trying to eat his sandwich, and also as a character with the ability to dodge incoming fire as he runs through hostile defences. His persona is arrogant and derisory to the viewer, comparing himself to a force of nature.
